The MTA brought out their fleet of classic R1/9 this holiday season for some special runs on the IND. Consisting of eight cars from the 1930s, the Holiday Nostalgia Train is a charming reminder of New York City’s transit history. These vintage cars were once the pride of the first subway company operated by the City of New York. Modern for their time, the R1/9s complimented the IND’s Depression-Era Art Deco aesthetic. They entered service on the Eighth Avenue line (today’s A/C/E) in 1932 and ran until 1977. Today, they are preserved as part of the New York Transit Museum’s collection. American Car and Foundry Company R1 #100 (1930/31) is the lead motor in this shot as the train enters the West 4th street station in Manhattan on the IND 6th Avenue line.

St. Louis Car Co R36WF 9586 (1963-1964), is the lead motor on a 6 car NYC Transit Museum excursion for the 20th anniversary of the last revenue run of the "Redbird" cars. The train is running on the IRT White Plains Road Line and did a loop from South Ferry in lower Manhattan to E238 Street in the Bronx.

Norfolk Southern's Erie painted SD70ACe is in charge of westbound grain train 51D as rolls over the trestle at Coopers, WV on the Pocahontas Division.

23 year old Amtrak Acela class unit 2000 makes a late night station stop at Newark Penn Station as it continues the journey to Washington DC.

With the remnants of Hurricane Idalia dumping heavy rains on the Carolinas, CSX M492 rolls through the Charlotte bedroom community of Matthews with the recently released C&O heritage ES44AH doing the honors.

NS ES44AC 8132 is seen leading westbound 119 past the closed Appalachian Power Company coal fired power plant in Glen Lyn, VA on an overcast November afternoon. Dating back to 1919, the plant closed for good in 2018.

CSX CW44AH 5122 is leading westbound I135 across the Potomac River & across state lines from Maryland to West Virginia as it heads through historic Harpers Ferry, WV on a rainy November afternoon.

Strasburg 2-6-0 89 has just pulled into East Strasburg station and waits to run around her train for the next departure on a snowy March afternoon. Windchills had temps into the teens on this day but steam in the snow is such a treat to photograph!

With a fresh crew onboard, specially painted Norfolk Southern AC44C6M 4001 is in charge of westbound manifest 127 as it crosses over the New River in Radford, VA on a unseasonably warm autumn afternoon.
