CSX L411-05 @ Glencoe, KY
CSX L411-05 @ Glencoe, KY
CSX's former Louisville & Nashville LCL Subdivision between Louisville, Kentucky and Cincinnati, Ohio has some iconic and scenic locations, such as the Street Running in La Grange and Bridge 40 over Banklick Creek near Independence. Another spot that has become well known in recent years is this view from Eagle Tunnel Road on the north side of Glencoe, Kentucky. A tunnel existed here behind the camera in the cut below until it collapsed on a train in 2005, at which time CSX spent the time and money to daylight the tunnel. Now known as Eagle Cut, the location is now a favorite among many photographers in the area, and this train in particular, the L411 Worthville Turn (better known as J767 until recent CSX symbol changes), is usually a prime target, as it typically has older EMD power. In this scene, we see CSXT 8839, an SD40-2 of Conrail heritage, leading the charge on the point of L411 as it makes its way north through the rolling hills of the Bluegrass State, approaching Eagle Cut, heading towards Queensgate Yard in Cincinnati on a beautiful summer morning.
