Nickel Plate Road 765 getting prepared for the journey to Jonesville, Michigan at sunrise.

Nickel Plate Road SD9 358 assisting in a ferry move to Hillsdale, MI to turn the excursion train with Nickel Plate Road 765 on the other end. The SD9 put out a little exhaust leaving Edon Ohio behind.

With an on time departure of 3:00pm from Angola, Indiana, NKP 765 begins its journey back to Hillsdale with a fall colors excursion in tow. After crossing County Road 400 N in Fremont, the train enters a spectacular tree tunnel of green and yellow foliage.

Nickel Plate Road 765, a 2-8-4, S-2 "Berkshire" steam locomotive built by the Lima Locomotive Works in 1944, is seen here passing the Indiana/Michigan state border. The 765 is pulling the Indiana Rail Experience’s "Fall Colors Train", hosted by the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society and the Indiana Northeastern Railroad. As said, directly from the IRE’s website, "Named Indiana’s 'Best New Experience' by the Indiana Tourism Association, the Indiana Rail Experience offers a variety of trips and events including hour-long rides, themed event trains, and all-day excursions aboard our historic passenger trains."

Passing by at the time, the new crossing in Fremont, it was closed at the time. This was a nice chase. And with no high sun.

After turning on the Wye Track at CP Wood, the 765 and train are starting back to Conway with another employee excursion. Those were the good days...
