With 3 C40-8s for power. Once you could see sets of these on both the Missabe and Iron Range Sub. Now they are mostly only seen on the Iron Range Sub out of Two Harbors. As new GE Widecab rebuilds are taking over the older power. My second trip to the Iron range is more than likely my last one

C40-8 2007 leads a NB Loaded Limestone train the South end of Coons siding. It is passing through at track speed and is meeting a U717 taconite train that I have been following for many miles. 3 C40-8s and a SD40-2W is the road power for this train

With a C40-8, BLE Tunnelmotor and a SD40-2 for power. This power is about to cut away to take head room and run around the train. This whole area is a big hit in my book and I look forward to returning later this year. Before the new power shows up

CN train G893 had a rare treat leading during the golden hour. CN C40-8 2131 powers the train solo. Since most Dash 8s are stuck in the iron range it is very hard to see one come down here

CN 2010 (a spartan cab C40-8) is seen leading CN A441 out of Norfolk Southern’s Elkhart (Robert R. Young) Yard and will later on head onto the CN South Bend Subdivision at the name’s sake. A nice New Year’s treat for us northern Hoosiers.
