Amtrak’s Day 1 50th Anniversary unit #301 leads Miami-bound Floridian 41 with newly painted Phase VII P42DC #79 trailing second through Brunswick, MD.

This unmissable building, painted somewhat recently to say "Welcome to Fredericksburg" on all 4 sides, was the perfect subject of the picture with Amtrak Floridian #41 serving as the secondary subject.

Amtrak has suspended both the Silver Star and Capital Limited and combined them into the new Floridian. Seen here is 41, the southbound, stopped at Alexandria Union Station, the first Floridian to do so.

Over the summer, Amtrak began testing the ALC-42 Chargers on the Auto Train, as seen in the picture. This was the last official run of the test train with the Pacific Bend sleeper car trailing behind the engines.

After a long chase of M442 up to Baldwin, FL in the morning, I decided to set up camp at the northern end of CSX's Moncrief Yard in Jacksonville, FL. Arriving there, I found 2 trains, NS 287 arriving into NS's Simpson yard in the distance and CSX L795 building his train for his return trip north. After seeing Amtrak train #98 was close enough, I drove to the other side of the tracks and within minutes up came Amtrak P098 slowly racing L795 towards its Jacksonville, FL station stop. Leading was a P42 which was a nice treat to end the day.

Amtrak P097 does all of track speed through Orange Park with double ALC-42's leading.

The P42 locomotives are still somewhat dominant on the City of New Orleans, but on this night the new Amtrak ALC-42 unit was on point and is slowly taking over the P42s. Here it is on point of Amtrak 58 departing on time at 4:08AM
