On what was supposed to be a cloudy day, a few friends and I we're headed out for Fort Myers to chase the SGLR's DeSoto turn. This is just one of 6 times that we'd successfully catch the DeSoto turn (they were going 15 mph so it was pretty easy).

On the night of April 3, 2014, a large line of severe thunderstorms came roaring into Arkansas. I'm an avid storm chaser and love shooting lightning. I started first at the UP yard in Malvern, capturing some good bolts. I then jumped in the car and raced north core punching through heavy rain and more lightning to get ahead of the storms. In Little Rock, I knew the UP DDA40X is on display outside the Jenks Shop and would make for a great photo with the coming storm. Arriving just after midnight and setting up the camera on the tripod in the backseat pointing the camera lens out the window, I was ready. Pressing the cable release and triggering the shutter, at 12:39:59 am this massive bolt hit just behind the unit! The flash was so bright and instant thunder very loud, I closed the shutter and this is what was captured. The bolt was less than 100 yards away. The drive back home to Hot Springs, I was thanking the Lord for allowing me to witness and capture the "photo" of a lifetime.

CSX 273 and CSX 355 are stopped next to an old coal tower in Social Circle, Georgia. The manifest train will continue west after a new crew get on board.

Making its way south from Flynn Yard in OKC, the OKC-Gainesville local rolls past the former ATSF depot in Pauls Valley, OK with a pair of former ATSF "Super Fleet" GE C44-9Ws on the point. For the majority of the year, these locals have been featuring Warbonnet duos, trios, and recently, even a quad set. Who knows how long this will last, as more and more of these former Santa Fe Dash 9s are being rebuilt, stored, or scrapped.

AMTK 206 leads Amtrak 8 past CP Red Rock on a cold march morning. While many Amtrak routes still have P42s commonly, this is the last time I've seen a set with only P42s. The Empire Builder now runs with almost exclusively ALC-42s.

On a gloomy, May Day. A couple of friends and I ventured out for the Jacksonville area. After stopping by Simpson, Baldwin, and many other places, one of my friends had found the Jax Port switcher switching out cars for customers. As soon as he found it, we rushed over to grab a couple of photos, this being my favorite.

It's a very cloudy day in Southern Georgia as NS train 65Q rockets north Toward Atlanta with the Southern heritage unit on point, passing by one of the many empty fields along this line.

Following my more recent post of FCEN 57, I had mentioned that they had purchased 2 Ex- UP GP15-1's, shortly after that post they had arrived on property. On a beautiful december morning, I made a run out to the Eagle Lake Division to test my luck on catching the new units. Pulling up near the transload facility, I find them pulling GP15-1 #655 and #713 out with a cut of tanks. I could still smell the paint fumes off of the units as they pull out too, these units look very sharp.

With traffic ahead of it at Plant Bowen, local L810 holds at Old Stilesboro Road with RF&P 6394 on the head end. 6394 is the second unit that has been assigned to this local to receive a nose repaint to “as built” paint, with the first being CSX 6914 receiving the infamous “Chessie System” nose.

On a oddly warm December morning, a friend and I are headed out towards Bartow, FL to find ourselves the brand new FCEN GP15's in a brand new, fresh coat of SCL paint. As we pull in, we are greeted by the 2 GP15's, which honestly look so much better in person.
