The full body paint “Spirit of our First Responders” unit paired with the New York Central heritage unit, one of CSX’s new heritage locomotives…this is what CSX railfans dream of!

Although it wasn’t the easiest thing to do, I was able to photograph this foreign power duo from the ground and the air (with a drone) as it cruised south leading S631 on the RF&P.

CSX SD70AC #4736 leads M422 through Arkendale, VA on a limited clear indication with an incredibly quick bell.

A freezing January afternoon following a decent snowfall saw me make the trip to the Brent Point Road crossing to catch what I’d been after for months - a well-lit shot of 911 in charge of a train. Safe to say I succeeded.

If you look closely, you can see the back end of this train still rounding the curve in the distance meaning it was at least a mile and a half long. Ever since PSR was implemented, behemoth trains such as this have become a normality.

Though it was running as a Mid-DPU on M410, my picture of the Chicago & Eastern Illinois heritage unit turned out much better than I could've hoped for given the train's speed and the dense cloud coverage.

After a couple weeks of drought in the Northern Virginia area, rain finally began to pass through with some amount of regularity. The impending showers that shadowed the sun for this picture brought out the green of the flourishing grass nicely.

CSX's Geometry Train, W003, makes a trip from Richmond, VA to Baltimore, MD on the RF&P Subdivision with a relatively new locomotive in the lead. SD23T4 #1713, rebuilt from SD40-2 #8055, had been operating this train for a few months after it replaced GP40-2 #6025, which had been running the train for years prior.

A once relatively common occurrence on Northeast Regionals through this area has become nearly impossible to see…an Amtrak Dash 8 leading a train. However, due to the P42DC in second position having mechanical issues the night before, I was able to relive the past and watch this rust bucket take charge of the trip to Washington, D.C.

An unhealthy obsession with SD70AC leaders on the RF&P Subdivision has led to seeing #4582 leading a train through this area for the third time. Something about these engines makes us want to go back for more every time we hear one is coming.
