From 1978-1980, I was blessed to play Baseball for Liberty Christian High School in Huntington Beach, CA. Our school played in the small schools division throughout southern California. Two schools we played away games were Hesperia and Victorville. These games were played at my "Field of Dreams", Lime St. Baseball Park. Located in Hesperia, right next to the Santa Fe/Union Pacific mainline through Cajon Pass to Los Angeles. "If you play, the trains will come." My senior year, (I was the only one out of a class of 25), I circled April 11, 1980 on the calendar. This would be my final away game against Victorville at the Hesperia ballpark. I brought my trusty Pentax K-1000 camera filled with B&W Kodak Plus-X film. I was also the yearbook photographer in 1980. I gave my camera to one of our "Team Moms" Mrs. Hildom to take photos of the game and especially any trains going by. From home plate looking to straightaway centerfield and right field, you had a clear view of trains going by. It was very difficult at the plate trying to concentrate on the pitcher and the ball with a train going by! Eastbound trains would zip by with little warning going downhill toward Victorville. However, westbound trains could be heard for a long time struggling up the steep grade. So on this beautiful spring April afternoon, Coach Riddell put the ball in my hand to pitch this final game. With a comfortable lead in the top of the 7th inning, two outs and nobody on, I knew a westbound train was approaching quickly. I called time, stepped off the mound, to watch UP DD40X 6901 West with three 8000 class SD40-2H units lead the SuperVan toward Los Angeles. Mrs. Hildom captured the moment as I started walking back toward the mound. I pitched a complete game, we came away with a victory and celebrated afterward at the local McDonalds. The bus ride back to school was a happy one.

It's 4:15 am at the Tucson yard as Rio Grande 5344 East has stopped with CIKCA-13 (City of Industry CA-Kansas City Autos). The train is getting refueled and waits for a new crew before departing later that morning. The consist includes RG 5344, SP 7608 and SP 6807.

SP 8604 and 8602 power the North Line local east through the crossover at Tully as large monsoon thunderstorms form to the south.

A solid set of Rio Grande units; RG 3105, RG 3049 and RG 3121 lead the SP CHSXF-01 westbound at Cienega Creek. The Sealand Double stack train is minutes away from Tucson and a new crew in June 1991.

UP 8875 north is stopped at Garwood siding with an empty CanPotex train. The consist is an even 3 UP and 3 CP units. UP 8875, CP 9358, UP 8923, UP 8623, CP 8617, CP 8809.

SP 8526 West leads a colorful consist across the Cienega Creek bridge east of Vail, AZ. The HOWCM includes lease Ex-Conrail 6693. Storm clouds begin to build.

Four WAMX SD40-2 units: 4230, 4159, 4227 and 4233 sit at the engine facility in Lewiston, Idaho on clear spring afternoon.

BNSF 5143 West leads a long loaded grain train through Cheney, WA under a "Kodachrome" sky. The sun came out just enough to highlight the train passing through town.

SP 8380 East arrives into Tucson with a WCHOM train and parks next to an Ex-Southern SD45 3155 on lease to the SP in March 1989.

SP 7828 East departs Tucson under a colorful rainbow with a "rainbow" consist. The consist includes MP 3051, HL (MP) 2057, VMV Paducah 6673 and SP 7485 on train symbol WCHOM in October 1988.

SP 9333 West powers the BSMFF as it meets SSW (Cotton Belt) 8091 East with the LBEST at Mescal in the late afternoon of March 1998.

Rio Grande SD40T-2 5373 is the point unit of the 3 SSW (Cotton Belt) units: 9662 (GP60), 7281 and 7279 (GP40-2) at the Tucson Yard engine facility. Storm clouds are forming to the east as the monsoons continue on this September 1998 afternoon.
