Two of CSX’s new-ish heritage units, the Baltimore & Ohio (#1827) and Western Maryland (#1852), lead the hotshot UPS Intermodal I031 past the Potomac Shores neighborhood in Dumfries, VA.

This coal train, which clocked in with 5 engines and 200 loaded coal hoppers, rumbled east on track 2 through the riverside town of Brunswick, MD.

M422 rolls through the busy town of Gaithersburg, MD with 5 head end locomotives, with the leading 3 being EMD SD70AC’s. The parking garage adjacent to the tracks provided a great vantage point on this sunny Sunday evening.

Though it was running as a Mid-DPU on M410, my picture of the Chicago & Eastern Illinois heritage unit turned out much better than I could've hoped for given the train's speed and the dense cloud coverage.

6 inches of snow was the last thing anyone in the DMV area was expecting from this storm considering the totals we’ve been getting over the last few years, but these Friday flurries turned into a half foot of the most powdery snow you could ask for…perfect for pictures with trains!

After the MP36PH-3C on VRE 310 failed at Quantico, the next northbound VRE (312) pulled in front of it, coupled up to the disabled train, and tugged it the rest of the way to Washington, D.C.. Notice the engine in the middle of the train around the curve - this is the MP36PH-3C that was shoving the 312 train and became the sole power for both sets after the combination.

A once relatively common occurrence on Northeast Regionals through this area has become nearly impossible to see…an Amtrak Dash 8 leading a train. However, due to the P42DC in second position having mechanical issues the night before, I was able to relive the past and watch this rust bucket take charge of the trip to Washington, D.C.
