Norfolk Southern's Safety Train travels over the "Big Viaduct" crossing the Little Conemaugh River in South Fork, PA. The train is part of Norfolk Southern’s Operation Awareness & Response (OAR) program. OAR was launched in 2015 to provide hands-on training to first responders along the Norfolk Southern system via a train that serves as a mobile classroom. The train consisted of SD60E 911 and GP38-2 5642 pulling two boxcars converted into classrooms, four styles of tank cars, including DOT-105, DOT-111, DOT-112, and DOT-117, and two 89-foot flatcars designed to transport intermodal containers.

Norfolk and Western J Class 611 is photographed near Goshen, VA pulling the Shenandoah Valley Limited between Goshen and Staunton, VA as it crosses over Mill Creek. The Virginia Museum of Transportation, in conjunction with the Virginia Scenic Railway and the Buckingham Branch Railroad hosted a series of Autumn excursions with the N&W 611.

A Norfolk Southern intermodal train, lead by an EMD SD70ACe, heads west on the Sang Hollow Extension near Seward / New Florence, PA. Excellent storm lighting was present for this scene, as a thunderstorm cell passes just west of this location. The Conemaugh Generating Station is currently not producing power, and its coal piles appeared to be quite depleted.

Shortly after exiting the Packsaddle Gap, Amtrak 43 passes through a rural landscape with a handful of railroad crossings. This drone photograph captures the passenger train passing a field. Amtrak's Pennsylvanian is a State-Supported route that travels between New York and Pittsburgh over the former Pennsylvania Railroad Main Line.

This photograph captures the Amtrak Pennsylvanian train passing the site of the Westmoreland Glass Factory in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. The train is led by Amtrak P42DC 130, which has been repainted in a 40th-anniversary paint scheme featuring the Phase II livery that adorned Amtrak trains in the mid-1970s. The factory, which operated from 1889 to 1984, was a significant local landmark but had been abandoned for decades. Unfortunately, the site was partially destroyed by fires in 2012 and 2017. However, in this photo, the train passes by the factory's remnants, a reminder of its place in the community's history and its perseverance over time.

A Norfolk Southern freight train derailed several months ago, near the Rockville Bridge. In this photo, a manifest train heading into Enola passes the derailed cars that are still sitting there.
